I’ve long been a believer in the fact that good things come in small packages (height 158cm, shoe size UK 3) and Pistachio & Pickle, a convenient two-minute walk down my road, is a perfect example.
Founded by Matt Kelly and Simon Cooper, this delightful little deli/café in a converted townhouse in London’s Barnsbury caters to every craving. Tasty takeaways include zingy chutneys, artisanal cheeses, cured meats and savoury pies, as well as all manner of baked goods, from freshly baked loaves to buttery pastries. Plus, there’s caffeine courtesy of Monmouth Coffee Company and a selection of fine wines.
As well as picking up some premium products to take home, you can eat in. There’s a handful of tables downstairs (and even a garden out back, ready and waiting for the summer months) but I prefer to pull up a pew by the window and people-watch as I enjoy my meal. Breakfast and lunch are served daily but nothing beats the weekend brunch, available until 2pm. Choose between granola, eggs benedict, buttermilk pancakes and more. Me? I’ll take the cheesy beans on toast.
