When you think of summery post-work drinks it’s unlikely that you think of Paddington, which is known for little more than its 19th-century train station (and perhaps a small bear with a penchant for marmalade). Until now, that is. Pergola Paddington Central opened behind the station in May and has been buzzing ever since.
Following in the footsteps of west London’s Pergola on the Roof, this 850-seat rooftop retreat is the brainchild of the Pergola Group, which takes forgotten urban spaces and turns them into alfresco drinking-and-dining destinations. Pop-up food stands from popular London restaurants serve lunch and dinner seven days a week: choose between Patty & Bun’s burgers, fresh salads from Raw Press and Mamalan’s piping-hot dumplings. Two bars offer all manner of spirits, wines, beers and cocktails, plus there’s live music and DJs at the weekend.
The industrial space – think plenty of wood and shiny copper accents – is brought to life with lots of leafy plants and greenery. Grab yourself an Aperol spritz or a chilled glass of rosé and hunker down for the evening under a canopy of flowers in a comfy day bed.
Until 1 October.
