Sweat It Out
Perched on a corner of colourful Caledonian Road, among myriad convenience stores and jam-packed hardware shops, Studio One Islington stands out with its bright-white façade and simple typeface. Stop by in the morning for an invigorating wake-up call or pop in post-work to wind down – when it’s dark outside, who could resist that warm and welcoming glow.
The studio, founded in 2016 by sisters Ali and Sarah Hatcher, offers small classes that range from boxing and barre to Pilates and yoga. The teaching is personal (you’ll soon know everyone by name) and there’s a fine eye for detail: come out of a class and grab a complimentary piece of fruit to go.
Yogis alternate between challenging “Rocket” and calming “Restorative” sessions, while Pilates fans can choose between working with a reformer machine or mat.
Combining all of the above is the studio’s signature class, The Method, which combines high-intensity training with mindfulness. Wend your way through a constant (and sweaty) flow of exercises – all the while maintaining a slow and steady breath – and then enjoy some well-deserved relaxation. No matter the challenge, the minimalist space – think white walls and leafy pot plants – will help you find your Zen.
