It’s time to swap the bars equipped with patios and backyards for the ones with soft, comfortable chairs and roaring fires. Ideally, classic cocktails and tasty nibbles are on offer too.

Boerum Hill’s Grand Army ticks all the boxes. Born from the dream team of Mile End’s Noah Bernamoff, Rucola’s Julian Brizzi, barman Damon Boelte and food photographer Daniel Kielger – and with former wd~50 chef Jon Bignelli leading the kitchen – this bar has the atmosphere, cocktails and food that we’re craving on these cold winter evenings.

Grab a table in front of the fire or perch at the bar. This year’s fall cocktails are inspired by the Grimm’s Fairy Tales – we suggest you sip on Iron Jon, Bright Sun Brings it to Light and apple brandy-based Little Red Cap. If you’re an oyster-lover, seize the opportunity to dive into a platter. If not, don’t worry, the other options are all the more striking. Try the hamachi crudo with cucumber, seaweed and lemongrass, the little gem lettuces with radishes, pumpkin seeds and pecorino, and, of course, the classic shrimp cocktail. That should keep you satisfied while enabling you to order another of those eerie, elegant cocktails.
